T One of the most’Successful missioi study classes ever held by the Wo ■man’s Auxiliary of" Steele Street Church occurred on Thursday anc Friday afternoons of last week anc the week before in the ladies’ parlor fourteen being enrolled and an attend ance of more than seventy-five pei cent each day. Mrs. M. D. Foister is superintend ent of mission study and conducted the devotional exercises. Mi's, C. M. Reeves taught the class in an except ionally able manner and the discus sions were - unusually interesting. “Studies in Prophecy/' was the book studied for three afternoons and. on the last “It’s Modern Application” was considered. * Miss Capps Gives Dance. A most delightful event in younger social circles was the informal dance given last Wednesday evening by Miss Frances Capps at her home on Chisholm Street. Those present were Misses Frances Capps, Frances Wagner, Sarah Wid dmeM, Nannie Stout,-Vivian Hinson, Ellen Matthews, Mildred Barahardt, Gladys Johnson, Gwen Cox, and Messrs. Jack Clark, Willie Stout, Mar vin Johnson, Archie Bane, Bridges and Knott. > Presbyterian Auxiliary. A very large attendance featured the June meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church on Monday afternoon. Devotional exercises were conduct ed by Miss Ad die St. Clair, and dur ing the business session arrangements were made to contribute to the ex penses of two patients at the state tubercular sanitorium. /. . A most interesting report of the recent conference for colored women held in Greensboro was given by Lecta Cox. Circles 1 and 3 tied for the honor of being the banner circles. Order Eastern Star. ' ^ The regular- meeting of the local chapter Order of the Eastern Star occurred last Thursday evening and the degree was conferred on one can didate, The next meeting which will occur on. the 3rd of July, will be the last meeting until September. At this meeting also degrees will be con ferred.’ American Legion Auxiliary. The regular meeting of the Ameri can legion Auxiliary occurred on Tuesday evening of last week with Miss Katie Yates as hostess. The president, Mrs. P. A. Hatch, was in the chair and appointed the following nominating committee to select officers for the ensuing year: Mrs. H. A, Russell, chairman, Mes dames Roland Monroe, Gordan Riddle, and Miss Katie Yates. Plans were made for sending a box to Oteen con taining bath robes, bedroom slippers, and checks for some -of the patients in the ward -sponsored by the local unit. A. Hatch, on the Boone Trail. - I Popular games ' and progressive conversation provided the evening’s diversion and: delicious pineapple ice cream and cake was served. Mrs. Jones b Hostess at-Two Parties Two of the prettiest affairs of the summer Were the parties given Tburs day afternoon and Friday morning by Mtb. E. W. Jones at the home of Mrs. P. H. St. Clair. A notable feature was the artistic arrangement of masses of gladioli, roses, ragged robins, and other bios* so ms, by the skilful fingers of Mrs. St. Clair. - . On Thursday afternoon there were two tables of rook players and three of bridge. Rook prize, a beautiful green glass vase, was won by Mrs. J. R. Milliken and bridge prize, an ex quisite tuncheon cloth, by Mrs. J.*F. Foster. Two out of town guests, Mrs. Sam Hancock, of of Florence, S. C-, and Mrs. Victor Stonebanks, ol •Raleigh, were honored with dainty handkerchiefs. The hostesses received at the en trance to the mezzanine and tallies were passed by Mrs. James Holland and Mrs. Kellar Britt. Following a ■ number of interesting progressions, first, second and third score prizes were presented. Mrs. W. R. Wil liams won high score award, a box | of vari-colored bath salts, Mrs. Coley Snypes second, a pair of embroider ed pillow cases, and Mrs. W. R. makepeace third, a bridge set. Moose To Hold Thai Summer Frolic Here July $th. \ On Wednesday, July 9th., members of Enoca Legion No. 69 will gather m Sanford for their summer frolic. Lod*e of the Loyal Order of Moore is planning to make this one.of the best and largest frolics ever held in Sanford. The Enoca Legion which was or* gamsed in 1928, held it's first frolic * Sanford oil November 28th, 192$. r' The local lodge w^l have members here from Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Greenville, Wilson, Rocky Mount, Dur ham, and Raleigh and a large crowd is expected from each town. The local lodge is planning to have one of the largest classes ever presented for the Legion Degree. Everybody is looking forward to this frolic and plan to make it a gay affair. Mrs. Griffin and Miss Lasater Are Hostesses. " Last week's round.of social affars was. climaxed by the skilfully plan ned bridge party given Friday after noon by Mrs Jessie Griffin and Miss Margaret Lasater at the attractive heme of the latter on Gulf street. IFour rooms were thrown en suite and fourteen tables were placed for bridge The floor arrangement was ^unusually artistic, gladioli being u^ed In, the sun room, pastel shades (of sweet peas and roses in the reception rooms, and zinnias and marigolds in shades of yellow and gold combined with purple ragged robins in the din incr mnm / A nufnber of games- were most en thusiaatically played and high score prize, s most- br autifiilly hand em broidered Gcdey print, was presented! to - Mrs.- Coiey Snypcs, and a hand some embroidered linen guest towel was given to Mrs. James Holland, whose score was second. A most charming feature of the party was the bevy of lovely young girls in -pastel - shaded organdie frocks who served the refreshments. They were Misses Sarah and Lucille Griffin, Mary, Frances, Elizabeth and Bettie Lasater and Mildred Stevens. DEWBERRIES (BRING BIG MONEY The dewberry growers in the Vass and Cameron section have had one of the beat years from point of prices that they have had in a long time. Cameron is the “Dewberry CapitoL” Nearly all the berries are snipped I from this point. This town is the laxg est shipper of dewberries in the na tion. Most of the berries are grown around 'Vass and Cameron, but a few I are raised around Lemon Springs and Jonesboro in this county and Olivia across the line in Harnett county and carried to Cameron for shipment. ’ In addition to shipment in refriger ated railroad cars, truck load after f trucy load have gone north on High way No. 1., the “Main Street” of the dewberry business has estimated that U. S. A man in close toueh with the i the net returns to the growers in the j Yass-Cameron area will total a little , over a quarter Million dollars. 1 It is said on one day 13 refrigerat ■ ed box cars were shipped from Cam eron full of dewberries in addition bo a number of trucks carrying the ber ries north. BIBLE STUDY CLASS. .The Bible study class of the Alice Green Missionary Society was held in the church Thursday evening at 6:30 o’clock. Mrs. R. C. Roland Mrs. W. A. Freeman gave the book, "Great Souls at Prayer,” in a most interest ing and helpful way. "Sweet Hour of. Prayer,” was sung. Mrs. J. D. Hill led in prayer. Mrs. M. D. Poin ter sang “The Bautiful'Garden of Prayer.” A delicious luncheon was served in the basemen^ to the large class and two visitors.
